Our Dream Home

Building our own home had been our dream for over 3 years when we found the perfect plot in October 2009.

It was a bungalow set in half an acre surrounded on 3 sides by mature oaks, set in the middle of a golf course, accessed by a private 200 meter track.
To the south is a 2 acres paddock of land with a barn that used to be part of the bungalow but was sold off a few years ago.

Just buying the property turned into an ordeal that made us question our choice and very nearly ended in us giving up on it.
We saw it advertised on Rightmove and knew straight away that we wanted this, so we had a look at it and placed an offer on it there and then.
At first the sellers wanted a quick sale so did not want a chain, but after receiving 2 offers that where more then ours but with a chain they decided that they could wait.

I kept in contact with the estate agent and found out that in November the chain had collapsed and they where looking at offers again, but they decided to got for the second (chain) offer.
I pestered the agent every week and in mid January 2010 he said that the deal with the other buyer had gone through and all the paperwork was in order, so we gave up on our dream and started the search again.

On the 25 February 2010 I received an email from the Agent asking if i was still interested as the chain had collapsed the day before exchange.
When I read that email (a few times to make sure I was not missing anything) there where a few shouts of joy, our dream was coming back to us.

This is when the problems started, our offer was officially accepted about a week later and we starter with all the paperwork. It was now mid April and we had exchanged contracts and completion was about 1 week away, that is when we where told that the sellers solicitors had noticed that the probate for the Will had not been granted yet, big problem.
We needed to move out of our place by the 1st of May, after threatening to pull out of the deal they agreed to rent us the property till the paperwork was finalised, only a few weeks they said.
After a very stress full time not knowing if this would be our home and unable to do much our dream home became our home 9 months later on the 24 December 2010.
